Chao are life forms that have existed for
centuries.
Their exact origin is somewhat enigmatic, but what one can gather from
experience is that the water creature Chaos's
(of course this time pronounced Kay-os)
appears to have similar characteristics as the chao.
(The plural of chao, as some people confuse, is plainly
chao. Just as the plural of fish is fish. not "fishes")
Introduced in the sonic timeline at the same time, Chaos and the
chao seem to have some connection. Their totally light-blue bodies, with
the exception of the tips of their feet, arms, and head resemble slightly
the water that composes Chaos.
Mystifying in their own ways, the chao race has survived long enough to be mingled, now, into the society of humans. Our species - completely ignorant to the fact these creatures are ancient and should be given the respect they deserve - regards them as mere pets. Some humans and possibly other species however, have bonded closely to chao, creating lifelong friendships.
Identified from all the other chao that exist, cheese has got his little red bow-tie that you'd never see him without. With not much inference, one can guess that it was most probably a gift from Cream.
She is something else you will never see Cheese without. This loyal chao is the trustworthy sidekick of Cream. The two of Cream and Cheese is the reason Cream's levels in Sonic advance are so easy: "Sick 'em boy!" if you played the game, you'll know what I mean. Cheese is the fourth member of Team rose in Sonic Heroes, he really doesn't do much, but he just couldn't bear to be without cream, or his long lost brother Chocola chao... I just wonder what happens when they meet a bagel...
