Eventually, the echidna people would try to get the chaos emeralds. Chaos,
the water beast did not like
this idea at all, and on top of that, while the people were on a rampage
to get the emeralds, they carelessly trampled over the little creatures
known as chao. This enraged Chaos, and he took the chaos emeralds, and
went on a rampage of his own. Tikal, remembering a wise saying her
grandmother had taught her, realized that the saying was about the chaos
emeralds, and that the master emerald controlled them. Upon finding this
out, Tikal knew what she had to do: seal Chaos away in the master emerald.
Centuries later, a mad scientist named Eggman stumbled onto this information, and thought he could use chaos to try to take over the world. Ultimately, though, Chaos was too powerful, and couldn't be kept under Eggman's control. A blue hedgehog, always ready to save the planet steps up to the plate, and battles chaos. When Chaos used the chaos emeralds, he used only the negative power in the emeralds, and left the emeralds. In the end, after Sonic had used the positive power of the chaos emeralds, and transformed into his super state, the two invincible powers nullified each other, and Chaos was stopped.
Chaos - the actual term, putting aside the beast for now - seems to be a huge part of all the Sonic series. Chaos Emeralds, and the power of chaos has been around since the very birth of the Sonic. The legacy of chaos summed up in this powerful water monster should not be taken lightly at all, and in fact, Chaos might be one of the most important parts of Sonic's life and adventures. If not for the emeralds, he may have been defeated long ago. In his debut, Chaos has made a big impression on Sonic, and helped clear some things up.
