Name of Game: Sonic Adventure
Characters involved: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik
Date of release: October 18, 1994
Summary: (BE WARNED OF SPOILERS IN THIS SUMMERY AND IN THE REVIEW) Sonic and Tails have gathered all the chaos emeralds and are flying in the tornado having fun just like any other day. Suddenly, they come upon land where there usually had been sea. Springing a trap on the unsuspecting duo was Knuckles the Echidna. The cheap shot had caught Sonic and Tails off guard, and He had dropped all 7 chaos emeralds he was carrying. Knuckles stole all these, for truthfully, they had originally belonged to the island he was on. Sonic and Tails had been left helpless on the unfamiliar island, and had to brave all the elements the island had to offer. More like a small world, traveling across Angel Island was no easy task. Along the way, Sonic had regained all the chaos emeralds and could transform into Super Sonic at any time he had over 50 power rings. (the earliest point in the game you could become super sonic is carnival night). As he progressed throughout the island, he came across a secret realm in which the master emerald was held. Surrounding the master emerald were super emeralds. Sonic acquired these super emeralds, and for the first time in Sonic history, Hyper Sonic was born. Hyper Sonic is an actual term meaning mach 3. By the time Sonic had reached this realm known as secret palace, he had settled the fight with Knuckles and they both realized the real enemy was Dr. Robotnik. As the Doctor stole the Master Emerald, he retreated to his "Death Egg". With the ultimate power source that was the master emerald, Dr. Robotnik finally had a powerful enough energy supplier to let him take over the world with the Death Egg. Little did Sonic, Tails, or Robotnik know that the Master Emerald was what kept Angel Island unique from all other islands. Angel Island was a floating island that was kept up by the power that emitted from the Master Emerald. Knuckles had been wounded in trying to protect the M.E. and could no longer go on, he put his past aside for the good of the island, and showed Sonic the way to the "Sky Sanctuary" which was the only way to reach Dr. Robotnik now. Battling his way up the now "badnik" infested Sky Sanctuary, Sonic finally reached the Death Egg. In a final match with all Eggman's technology, with the power of the master, super, and chaos emeralds, Sonic emerged victorious. As the Death Egg fell into the ocean and Robotnik's plans finally thwarted, Sonic and Tails returned the Master Emerald to Angel Island, and watched it rise up into the sky. Knuckles ultimate destiny is to protect this emerald with his life now. Subjective Review:
Overall Rating:
As you may have noticed, this is a combination of two games: Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. With their graphics identical, and their storylines fitting into one another as they do, I count both as one single game. There has even been a version of these games that has come out called "Sonic 3 and Knuckles" Hence, you'll have to forgive me if you disagree. I can't find anything wrong with this game no matter how hard I try. The story is full and complete, the graphics for it's time were very good, and the characters fit into the story perfectly. 5 out of 5 emeralds for this game - no question.

Audio

The music in this game is a perfect example of the classic videogame "pixilated" music. You'll know what I mean if you hear it. You can find examples of this in the Media/audio/mp3 section of Sonic Ultimate. I'm a huge fan of "old school" gaming, so this is one reason I give all my 5 to the audio section.

Game play

Perhaps one of the easiest to control Sonic games. All 2 dimensional Sonic games were much easier to control than the 3D ones. I must say though, even while super and hyper Sonic, one could control Sonic with no problem. Not much to critique when it's just all good.

Story

Out of all the Sonic games, I have two favorite storylines. Sonic CD is one of them, and Sonic 3&K is most definitely the other. These storylines fit so well into what's happening, and it explains details as it does so. Sonic and Knuckles first confrontation here will prove repetitive after this game, and shows how stubborn big red is. The summary describes the story fairly well if you wish to know more.

Replay Factor

I believe other Sonic games should have taken after this one's example. The idea of letting Sonic transform at any time during any level was the very epitome of "fun" Destroying enemies, and flying into the air at high speeds is just what people would find interesting about Sonic. His speed gives him the edge, and being two to three times faster with invincibility was all that this game needed to have a great replay factor.
